I believe that our school shares the responsibility with families to build students' character and assist boys and girls to to make good choices. We don't expect children to behave perfectly, just to do their best and strive to get better each day. Our staff works hard to make Mack a safe place for children to learn how the world works. Sometimes that means that students learn what it feels like to be disappointed, frustrated, or even angry. It is okay for youngsters to have these feelings, as long as they do not let their emotions overwhelm them. Often the best way to help children is to support them as they work through such feelings and help them decide on a positive course of action. As a staff we know that we can assist our students to acquire a variety of tools to use as they navigate their lives well beyond Nate Mack. To that end, we directly teach students eighteen life skills:
- caring
- common sense
- cooperation
- courage
- courtesy
- effort
- friendship
- flexibility
- initiative
- integrity
- organization
- patience
- perseverance
- pride
- problem solving
- respect
- responsibility
- sense of humor
